ARGON GAS

Argon gas is a colourless odourless nobel gas. It is the third most abundant gas found in our atmosphere and is purified industrially by fractional distillation of liquid air.   Argon is non-toxic and the only hazards associated with it are those related to the gas being stored at extremely low temperatures, high pressures or the displacement of oxygen causing asphyxiation.

Argon is mostly used as a shielding gas in TIG welding applications and mixed with carbon dioxide for MIG welding applications. Argon gas is non-reative at high tempertures and is used to replace other gases that become reactive at these elevated temperatures such as nitrogen.

COMMON USES

– TIG welding (Pure Argon)

– MIG welding (Argon/Carbon Dioxide)

– Pipe purging

– Inert carrier gas for laboratory instrumentation (GC and ICP)

– Wine dispensing
