REFRIGERATION GASES

Thanks to our newly formed relationship with A-Gas New Zealand, Southern Gas Services now has the potential to supply a full range of refrigerant gases along with the ability to recover, recycle and safely dispose of unused refrigerants on-site at the head office in Christchurch.

REFRIGERANT GAS

Refrigerant gases are either pure or a mixture of gases, usually as a fluid that are used in automotive air conditioning, commercial or residential heat pumps and refrigeration (cold stores/freezers). This liquid, known as the working fluid, undergoes phase transitions from a liquid to a gas and back again during the refrigeration cycle. Most commonly they are a mixture of fluorocarbons or chlorofluorocarbons. However, due to their ozone-depleting properties, the chlorofluorocarbons are being phased out in favour of more environmentally friendly mixtures.

The ideal working fluid has favourable thermodynamic properties and is non-corrosive, non-toxic, non-flammable, and does not deplete the ozone layer. All of the properties are hard to find in a single mixture so trade-offs have to be made which limits the particular application the mixtures are suitable for.

Through our association with A-Gas, we can provide a comprehensive solution for both refrigeration gas charging and refrigeration recovery needs.
