NITROGEN GENERATORS

We ensure that every nitrogen generator we sell and install, exceeds our customer’s expectations, regardless of the unique application.

Southern Gas Services has proudly collaborated with On Site Gas Systems, a global leader in manufacturing nitrogen generations since 1987, since 2003.  This partnership allows us to provide a comprehensive range of OEM Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) generators, with outputs from as little 0.7 to 2,100 Nm3/hr and purities spanning from 95% to 99.9995%.

As with On Site Gas System’s oxygen generators, direct connection to the manufacturer ensures a system designed specifically for your product application. They are reliable, cost-effective, safe, and convenient, and are all backed by factory support.

On Site Gas Systems are a fully certified ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 13485:2016 manufacturing facility. All of their pressure vessels are ASME certified, meeting the requirements of the New Zealand PECPR Regulations 1999.

Similar to us, On Site Gas Systems are dedicated to providing innovative, highly engineered equipment of exceptional quality, along with comprehensive support.

We have personally relied on the simplicity and reliability of PSA gas generation. Our company was founded on several generators, which continue to operate at our Head Office manufacturing facility, located in Christchurch.

NITROGEN GENERATOR MODELS AVAILABLE

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS INCLUDE: MAP packaging, laboratories, electronics manufacturing, heat treating, chemical blanketing, laser cutting, fluid transfer, fire suppression, hospitality, and many other commercial applications.

NITRO BLAST GENERATOR

The Nitro-Blast on-location nitrogen generator system infused nitrogen into cold brew coffee at the point of use. Ensuring quick and easy delivery of frothy, smooth coffee in less time than it takes to brew a cup of traditional coffee. The Nitro-Blast system can also be used to infuse nitrogen bubbles into beer.

Our Nitro-Blast nitrogen generators can simultaneously service up to five tap lines. They come complete with onboard air compressors, filters, sieve beds, status display, oxygen analyser and a flowmeter.  Additionally, an internal pressure transducer is capable of auto-switching to a back-up cylinder (not included) should production requirements exceed capacity.

MEMBRANE NITROGEN GENERATORS

Membrane technology is ideally suited to remote applications requiring high flow rates at lower purities and will only be recommended under certain circumstances.

Nitrogen membrane generators are designed as a complete turnkey system and only requires connection to the process line, once it arrives at your location.

Unlike PSA technology, pressurised air is fed into hollow fiber membranes. This bundle of fibers is designed in such a way as to allow the smaller oxygen molecules to exit through the fibers under pressure. Other contaminants, such as CO2 and water vapour permeate faster than nitrogen and also exit through the fibers purifying the nitrogen gas stream as it passes through.

The compressed air flow rate determines how much undiffused oxygen remains in the nitrogen gas stream directly affecting the final nitrogen gas purity.

Membrane generators have vast capabilities due to their modular nature (small stand-alone generators to fully containerised packages). Units can produce nitrogen at purities ranging from 95% to 99%, flow rates of up to 110 Nm3/min at pressure up to 24 Bar.  The generator comes standard with a PLC control which fully monitors the production of nitrogen which can be checked by the operator at a glance.

In summary, membrane generators offer simplicity with no moving parts but at a narrower range of purities.

NITROGEN N-XX-T GENERATOR SERIES

The N-XX-T series of nitrogen generators are a cabinet-style configuration and are intended for applications that require nitrogen at purities between 95% to 99.9995%  at pressures up to 165 psig. Flow rates for the smallest “T” style generator (N-01-T) to the largest (N-100-T)  range from 0.7 to 71 Nm3/hr at a nitrogen purity of 95%.

All “T” series generators operate quietly (70 – 85 dBA) and have an energy-efficient power draw (17 watts). They come complete with three stages of inlet air filtration, a programmable logic controller, touchscreen, pressure transducer, exhaust mufflers, isolation valves, and an oxygen sensor.

An external nitrogen storage buffer vessel is required to ensure a smooth, continuous flow of nitrogen gas to the process. For higher nitrogen pressures, an additional booster compressor and high-pressure storage would be required.

This family of generators is fully automatic and production begins when demand downstream is sensed and switches off when nitrogen product is no longer required.

NITROGEN N-XX-TGN

The N-XX-TGN generators are skid mounted and designed for high purity high capacity nitrogen applications.  These generators are capable of generating nitrogen gas with purities from 95% to 99.9995% with single installation units capable of 150 Nm3/hr at 99.9995% purity. As with the “T” series maximum nitrogen outlet pressure is 165 psig unboosted. Multiple generators can be coupled together to meet your production requirements and systems have a life expectancy of more than 20 years.

All “TGN” series generators operate quietly (70 – 85 dBA) and have an energy-efficient power draw (17 watts).

This family of generators is fully automatic. Production begins when demand downstream is sensed and switches off when nitrogen product is no longer required.

NITROGEN TYRE INFLATION

Nitrogen-filled tyres have two distinct advantages over those filled with standard compressed air 1) inflation pressure remains more constant and 2) elimination of oxygen. Both of these processes improve fuel economy and increase the safety and overall lifespan of the tyre.

Our nitrogen generators are ideal for those who need a consistent supply of nitrogen gas for tyre inflation. The nitrogen generation systems from On Site Gas also work in tough environments and ever-changing conditions. For those who are looking for maximum returns on operating capacity-to-cost ratios consider our systems for a cost-effective solution.

NITROGEN CYLINDER FILLING SYSTEM

Nitrogen cylinder filling stations can be easily incorporated into any nitrogen generation system. This setup offers a convenient and reliable way of filling cylinders for onsite or offsite work or additional storage for peak demand usage.

Most systems will fill to 200 bar and beyond. Both oil-filled and oilless compressor options are available however, choosing a high-pressure option adds additional complexity and servicing requirements to the system.

Note: Approvals for both the cylinders and cylinder fillers will be required from the New Zealand regulatory bodies before cylinders can be legally filled and used within New Zealand.

TYPICAL NITROGEN GENERATOR INSTALLATION

All nitrogen generation systems, large or small, contain the same components, just in varying sizes and configurations.

In order to separate the nitrogen gas from the air mixture at room temperature, it must be compressed to a minimum pressure of 100 psig (approx. 7 barg).  Once the air is compressed it is then filtered, cooled and the moisture is removed via a refrigerated dryer resulting in very clean and dry air (Dewpoint -70 C).  The input air quality is a significant factor in maintaining the longevity and purity of the overall system.  The process air is then feed onto the PSA beds where the air is separated into its components.  In the case of nitrogen gas, all other components are considered as contaminants and are retained on the molecular sieve within the towers and expelled as waste gas during the purge cycle of the process.

Because the system constantly cycles from a state of production, to purge/recycling, the gas produced is not supplied as a continuous stream therefore, a buffer vessel is required to smooth out the gas supply and provide a small storage reservoir.

Maintenance is as simple as changing filters on the generator and following the manufacturers advice on any standalone compressors.

Life expectancy of our equipment is estimated at greater than 20 years.  We currently have PSA generators that have been performing day after day for the last 16 years.
