OXYGEN GAS

Oxygen gas is a colourless odourless gas. It is the second most abundant gas found in our atmosphere, being nitrogen, at a concentration of 20.8%. It is essential for biological life.

Oxygen gas is purified industrially by fractional distillation of liquid air. Due to the differences in boiling points of the constituents of air oxygen (-183 degrees Celcius), can be easily separated from both nitrogen (-196 C) and argon (-186 C).

Oxygen, although not flammable, will promotes rapid combustion.  When stored in high presure cylinders, or pipelines, the cylinders and pipes themselves become the fuel in the reaction therefore, ignition sources should be minimised or eliminated.

Oxygen is mostly used as a oxdising gas for industrial applications such as the cutting and brazing of metals. It also serves a important part of health care, as a life support gas.

Bulk oxygen is normally shipped in its liquid form at a temperature of -183 degrees celcius.
